Talking Down America

After just one month as our President, I am starting to see a consistent theme from the Obama Administration. That theme is the constant drum beat of talking down America and all that it stands for. Just listen to Obama's speech that he gave in Phoenix where he revealed his plan for "fixing" the home mortgage crisis. Yes, I understand that the country is currently in some tough economic times, especially for those folks who have lost their jobs over the past six months, but we are not in the worst of times since the Great Depression.

I was alive when Jimmy Carter was president and the economy was in a deeper recession then; unemployment was in double-digits, gas shortages were rampant and was being rationed and interest rates for home mortgages were 18% or higher. So, we are not there yet, however if you listen to his speech it almost sounds like that is where he wants to take us. In this 10 minute speech he said "crisis" 24 times. This link has the full text of the speech. If he truly wants to see this economy turn around then bring some optimism when you are talking to America.

Not only is Obama talking down America but U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has taken it to a whole new level. Below is the video of our nation's chief law enforcement officer giving a speech earlier this week. Has Attorney General Holder forgotten Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech where he said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character".

Attorney General Holder's speech really saddens me.
