We Should not be Surprised

Bigger does not mean better. In government, bigger means more intrusive, inefficient as well as less liberty. A lot of Republicans over the past two decades have lost their conservative way, however, when you vote for a Democrat whether you like it or not, you are voting for a bigger, more intrusive government.

And people that know politics should have known that President Obama earned his most liberal Senator rating for a reason. You should not be surprised with President Obama's liberal agenda.

Talking Down America

After just one month as our President, I am starting to see a consistent theme from the Obama Administration. That theme is the constant drum beat of talking down America and all that it stands for. Just listen to Obama's speech that he gave in Phoenix where he revealed his plan for "fixing" the home mortgage crisis. Yes, I understand that the country is currently in some tough economic times, especially for those folks who have lost their jobs over the past six months, but we are not in the worst of times since the Great Depression.

I was alive when Jimmy Carter was president and the economy was in a deeper recession then; unemployment was in double-digits, gas shortages were rampant and was being rationed and interest rates for home mortgages were 18% or higher. So, we are not there yet, however if you listen to his speech it almost sounds like that is where he wants to take us. In this 10 minute speech he said "crisis" 24 times. This link has the full text of the speech. If he truly wants to see this economy turn around then bring some optimism when you are talking to America.

Not only is Obama talking down America but U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has taken it to a whole new level. Below is the video of our nation's chief law enforcement officer giving a speech earlier this week. Has Attorney General Holder forgotten Martin Luther King, Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech where he said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character".

Attorney General Holder's speech really saddens me.

Words From Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson's words ring true now more than ever especially from the wake of the wonderfully new (of course said with sarcasm) and just signed into law (Anti)Stimulus Bill. I just hope over the next four years more people in this wonderful land of ours take these quotes to heart.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

Delay is preferable to error.

We Need Limited Government

While observing what the federal government has done over the last months of the Bush Administration and the first month of the Obama Administration, I am reminded of the famous quote from the movie, "Cool Hand Luke", "What we have here is a failure to communicate". It is really more accurate to say, "What we have here is a failure to understand and comprehend". Because, based upon their actions both of these leaders are ignoring the wise words of our nations forefathers.

Our forefathers fully understood by limiting the power and size of our government, citizens would be empowered to pursue their inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Thomas Jefferson recognized the importance of limited government as can be seen in his First Inaugural address that he delivered on March 4, 1801.

If we expect to dig ourselves out of this economic downturn and spurn economic growth, private sector innovation and promote small business then we have got to stop the overreach and power grab of our federal government.

Another Honor Killing

I am not sure whether or not you all have heard about this story of Muzzammil Hassan from Orchard Park, New York, just outside of Buffalo, who beheaded his wife, Aasiya Hassan, last week at his office. Here is the story from the Buffalo News.

Let me fill you in a few more details about this story. Mr. Hassan was the founder of Bridges TV, a television station established to improve the image of Muslims in the United States. So, it is quite ironic that Mr. Hassan committed this gruesome honor killing in the office that he founded to build bridges between American Muslims and other Americans. Here is a link to a New York Sun article written in October of 2006 that basically describes some of the programming at this television network.

The other outrageous reality that this story has brought to light is the drive-by media's (a.k.a. MSM) lack of coverage of honor killings like this. In fact, NBC News is familiar with Mr. Hassan since they presented a story about Bridges TV in 2004.

Have you heard of this story of the two teenage daughters killed by their Muslim father from Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas?

Why is the MSM not covering these events and other events like these, like we think they should? This is something worth investigating.

Census Move

Obama taking control of the Census from the Commerce Department and under his Chief-of-Staff Rohm Emanuel is nothing but a pure power grab by the Obama Administration. The overreach of this administration just continues roll. Once again the MSM is silent about this potential move. Obama and his administration can do no wrong.

True Cost of the Generational Theft Act (a.k.a. Stimulus Bill)

I know that I should stop harping on this but this Stimulus Bill is not worth the 1,100 plus pages that it was written on. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) asked the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) for a report to give us a true impact of what the cost of this package will be over the next 10 years. According to the CBO report the cost will be $2.527 trillion in spending with another $744 billion in debt servicing. Basically, this bill will cost over $3.27 trillion over the next 10 years.

And we all know who gets to pay for this mess. Hold onto your wallets and the wallets of your children and grandchildren as well.

Here is the link from The Heritage Foundation that has more details about the overall cost.
